Overview of the Position

Under the supervision of the Leader – Green Innovation, as a Research and Development Scientist, your main role is to develop resin formulations and applications related to the automotive and electrical industries. We are looking for a motivated and highly skilled individual with good laboratory skills and the ability to deliver high productivity.  Key aspects of the role are the ability to grow within a well-established team structure working on multiple projects in a newly renovated, state-of-the-art laboratory.



  • Respects project priority set by the Leader Green Innovation and the management team
  • Understands customers’ requirements and needs
  • Designs products/formulations according to application requirements and validates feasibility and performance
  • Selects and qualifies additives, fillers and base materials in new formulations
  • Studies and optimizes production processes, including pilot and industrial lines for the new products
  • Establishes and verifies new testing methods and transfers the complete methods to QC team


  • Provides technical support on improvement of commercial production processes
  • Participates in qualification of new raw material sources, additives and fillers
  • Provides technical support to solve production problems


  • Prepares technical documents including, but not limited to, compounding trial document, technical data sheet (TDS), material safety data sheet (MSDS), advanced product quality planning (APQP), and certificate of analysis (COA) and get the documents approved by the Leader Green Innovation
  • Records and analyzes R&D testing data and testing procedures/methods; saves the data properly to the server
  • Provides preliminary conclusions and data summaries to the Leader Green Innovation
  • Communicates project progress regularly to the Leader Green Innovation and the management team
  • participates in technical discussion with clients and suppliers


  • Prepares and records sample order request and follow up on the samples
  • Records R&D work hours/expenses
  • Maintains TDS/MSDS data base
  • Maintains and updates any/all sections of ISO/TS related to R&D


  • Travels (as required) for customer technical support activities
  • Visits (travels to) existing customers locations to understand the performance of Lavergne products and any customer expectations
  • Visits potential customers (as required) to understand their applications and technical requirements
  • Is involved in customer trouble shooting and provides technical input
  • Discusses and determines travel plan with the Leader Green Innovation


  • Conducts literature review regularly to remain abreast of engineering resin development and market trends
  • Analyzes and discusses trends with the Leader Green Innovation to determine long-term research projects, which will contribute to Lavergne’s significant growth in the marketplace
  • Continues to develop and conduct long-term research projects and immediately applies findings to commercial production/product development where applicable
  • The Leader Green Innovation may assign special projects/activities as may be required to meet company targets.

Requirements/Skills Required

  • trouble shooting and root cause analysis skills


  • Master or PhD in engineering, chemistry and / or polymers (or associated fields) with pertinent experience in the field of polymers
  • working experience in automotive industry and/or injection molding is a plus
  • Extensive knowledge in the field of polymers, plastic composites, and polymer blends
  • Interest for field and laboratory work with our operations personnel
  • Interest in fieldwork for customer applications/operations, internal applications/operations
  • Detail oriented
  • Communicate effectively (English and French)

Work Schedule

  • 7.5 hours a day / 37,5 hours per week
  • Day shift
