The collaborative partnership between Lavergne and HP took a big step forward when global certification body UL confirmed HP computers using Lavergne’s resins were the first products to meet UL Standard 2809 — Environmental Claim Validation Procedure (ECVP) for Recycled Content.
The two companies’ long-term partnership has allowed HP to make greater use of recycled plastics in its printers, laptops, notebooks, ink cartridges and accessories.
“We are the first companies to meet UL’s high standard for recycled post-consumer plastics,” explained Jean-Luc Lavergne. “Thanks to HP, we are truly pioneers in this field blazing trails in uncharted territories.”
Third-Party Validation
Thanks to UL’s rigorous scientific analysis, consumers can have full confidence the HP products contain a significant percentage of high quality recycled parts.
In recent years, the popularity of green product marketing has increased the use of eco-labels. While eco-labels can be helpful, it can still be hard to know the exact percentage of recycled materials used in the product, whether the post-consumer plastics were truly ocean-bound, or how the company created the recycled plastics.
UL’s third-party validation answers those questions.
UL 2809 Standard
The UL 2809 Standard was designed to assure the public that validated products are made with recycled materials. While it originally measured the percentage of recycled content, it was recently expanded to include other criteria, including detailed assessments on:
Pre-consumer and post-consumer materials
Social and economic impacts on local communities
Criteria for ocean-bound and ocean-sourced plastics
Lavergne’s work over the past 30 years has evolved to offer a complete circular solution — delivering technological, environmental and economic advantages.
Lavergne is proving that with the right technologies and processes, ocean-bound and post-consumer plastics can play a key role in technically-demanding sectors like electronics, automotive and appliances.
