Lavergne Plastics are UL Environment 2809 Validated (ECVP)

Lavergne is proud that a number of its ocean-bound and recycled plastic resins have been validated by the UL 2809 Environment Claim Validation Procedure (ECVP), acknowledging the high levels of post-consumer recycled (PCR) content and the efficacy of its closed loop system.

It’s a great step forward for the circular economy. We routinely ask: “Is Infinite Recycling possible?” With the right technology, tools and team — yes, it is.

Lavergne’s work is also an inspiring story. Lavergne collects Ocean-Bound Plastics (OBP) from the Caribbean island nation of Haiti, washes, sorts and recycles them into durable plastic resins that industry leaders like HP use to manufacture printers, laptops, notebooks, ink cartridges and accessories.

Lavergne’s plastic resins are also used by leading companies in the automotive, appliance and consumer goods industries.

Eco-Labels

Eco-labels are an important way to help customers feel confident that the product they purchase meets their sustainability goals.

Programs like UL ECVP 2809 and the US Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) are taking us in the right direction.

However, some eco-labels are not entirely transparent about how they reach their validation. UL certification processes, on the other hand, are built on scientific rigor, analysis and unwavering standards.

The UL 2809 Validation

The UL 2809 Environmental Claim Validation Procedure (ECVP) for Recycled Content evaluates the amount of recycled content in products including:

  • Post-consumer recycled content
  • Pre-consumer (post-industrial) recycled content
  • Closed loop recycled content
  • Total recycled content

An extra bonus comes from Ocean-Bound Plastics — those post-consumer items like drink bottles and food containers that inevitably make their way through the lakes, rivers and canals towards the ocean.

Thanks to this third party procedure, consumers can have full confidence that specific HP products contain a validated percentage of recycled plastic in the form of high-quality recycled parts.

Lavergne’s UL 2809 Validated Product Line-up

Lavergne is pushing the envelope on a growing product suite of innovative, dependable recycled plastics resins. UL has recognized the innovative work, as Lavergne now has a long list of UL 2809 validated products.

The table below outlines the Lavergne line-up of UL 2809-validated products.

As you scan the line-up, please you will see we’re mostly talking about Polyethylene Terephthalate or “PET”, the type of materials in used drink bottles, as well as Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene “ABS,” the materials derived from recycled e-waste like printers, keyboards or mice.

As the old plastics are collected and recycled, we specify that they’re Post-Consumer Recycled plastics or “PCR,” or Ocean-Bound Plastics or “OBP.”

Each of those products meet the high standards of UL 2809.

Lavergne is proving that with the right technologies and processes, PCR and OBP can play a key role in technologically demanding sectors like electronics, automotive and appliances.
